This session provides HR practitioners with a high-level understanding of I-9 documentation and E-verification used when hiring foreign nationals.  Attendees will leave with helpful tips and tools on how to successfully complete I-9 forms - including common mistakes made. Topics to be covered include:

  • Interesting I-9 fact patterns and scenarios. We will cover a wide variety of situations that we have seen firsthand in auditing I-9 files for clients, or have been shared with us as hypotheticals by SHRM members.
  • Maintaining I-9 and E-Verify compliance with relevant U.S. immigration laws and regulations. This will include recent changes to I-9 policies and how to avoid immigration-related discrimination.
  • Tips for implementing a compliance policy.
  • Recent developments in ICE/ audit trends, the procedures for I-9 audits and penalties assessed.
