This presentation is inspired by Gandhi’s quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” If one is hoping to lead, this is the most effective way to inspire others. Mindfulness in the workplace creates an environment where ego battles aren't driving the company down. It's a system where individuals are willing to put aside their own self-interests for the sake of the greater good, and where individuals are able to appreciate the contributions of their co-workers instead of feeling threatened by them. It fosters an environment where cliques and office politics are strongly discouraged, and where open and honest communication is encouraged so no one feels as if they're being kept in the dark. It's an environment where constructive feedback is balanced with a healthy dose of appreciation. This presentation will encourage you to reflect on how you can become a better leader in whatever leadership role you are in. In order to create this type of environment, leadership in all capacities needs to focus on the following six principles:

  1. Leading by example: Leaders can’t expect others to do what they themselves aren’t willing to do. Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. are perfect examples of leading by example; they got entire nations to follow their lead because of genuine inspiration, and not by fear.
  2. Appreciation: Appreciating the contributions of the workforce is a crucial aspect of an organization’s success. A paycheck isn’t enough; people need to know their work is being recognized. Dasa will talk about the different ways to balance employee feedback with the proper recognition.
  3. Communication: It’s practically impossible to lead unless you know how to communicate with your team. Good communication will lead to the building of trust, while bad communication or a lack of it will breed distrust and uncertainty. Learn tips that will help you develop mindful communication techniques.
  4. Humility: Learn about the importance of acknowledging your weaknesses while seeking the input of others. Humility means being able to put aside your ego and cooperate with others. It is not a sign of weakness, it is a strength.
  5. Balanced emotions: Dasa will discuss the importance of keeping your emotions in check, especially during meetings when your point of view is being disregarded, and how to keep your cool during high-pressure moments.
  6. Meditation: Learn about scientific research from Harvard and MIT on the importance of meditation, how it reduces stress and anxiety, and how it improves focus, memory, and concentration. Hear how CEOs and professional athletes use meditation to stay focused and calm in high-pressure situations.
