Managing Veterans in the Workplace: A Guide for Retaining a Valuable Resource
This session provides education and a skill-building opportunity for leaders and companies committed to hiring, engaging and developing veterans. You will learn how to successfully transition and integrate veterans, which will not only ensure the success of the veteran but also the success of the company by being able to retain this valuable resource. This session will help you:
· Describe the characteristics of military culture that frame veterans’ military paradigm.
· List and describe the seven attributes veterans bring to an organization as a result of their military experience.
· Identify the gaps that may exist as a result of the differences between military and civilian cultures.
· Determine strategies that can be implemented to minimize any issues with veterans’ transition to the civilian workforce.
Kathy Crenshaw, SHRM-SCP
Kathy Crenshaw has a Masters in Education in Learning and Instructional Technology from Arizona State University and has more than 30 years’ experience in talent management, organizational development, leadership development and performance management. She is certified in multiple leadership models, change management philosophies, and earned her SPHR and SCP-SHRM. She is co-owner of BelKat Solutions, LLC, and together with her business partner, Linda Maddy, has developed and delivered workshops, tools and strategies for corporate, higher education and government organizations.
Linda Maddy
Linda Maddy has a Masters in Social Work from Portland State University and has worked over 11 years as a licensed clinical social worker. She worked exclusively with Veterans for ten years with concentrations in complex addictions and mental health, and is a national master trainer on Veterans’ post-deployment reintegration issues. Linda’s expertise with Veterans and social work is the catalyst that melds the art and science in BelKat’s body of work. As co-owner of BelKat Solutions, LLC, she and Kathy are committed to helping to create Veteran-informed organizations to maximize this valuable resource – the Veteran.
