SHRM conducts a large-scale annual survey of trends in the strategic use of benefits. This survey investigates how organizations are making use of their benefits to enhance their talent management strategies and the lives of their employees. In this session, data collected from the survey serves as a launchpad for describing how you can make better use of competitive practices and findings from behavioral science to make your benefits programs more strategic and impactful.

Paula H. Harvey, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR is the VP of Human Resources & Safety for Schulte Building Systems in Hockley, TX. She has worked in the retail, services, construction and manufacturing industries. Mrs. Harvey has over 30 years’ experience in Human Resources. She earned her Bachelors of Business Administration in International Marketing and Operations Management from the University of Texas at Austin. She has also earned her MBA with a concentration in HR Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

She is a Senior Global Certified Professional of Human Resources through SHRM and HRCI. She is an authorized OSHA 501 trainer and has achieved the Manager of Environmental Safety and Health Programs (MESH) certificate and the Advanced Safety Certification (ASC) from the National Safety Council.

Paula teaches several business and leadership related topics especially to HR professionals. She is also an internationally recognized speaker on global and strategic business issues. She has published or been quoted in several articles on HR topics and co-authored three books with other HR professionals.

She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) currently serving on the board of the SHRM Foundation and on the SHRM Talent Acquisition Panel. She has also served as the SE Membership Advisory Council Representative (MAC), NCSHRM President and President of Union County HR Association and Charlotte Area SHRM. She is a member of HR Houston mentoring students on the University Liaison committee. She is a past recipient of NCSHRM HR Professional of the Year and NCSHRM HR Humanitarian of the Year.

Tom is the President of C. H. Reams & Associates, Inc. an Independent Employee Benefits Broker & Licensed Third Party Administrator. He has over 20 years’ experience working within the industry with a focus on Mid-Market size employers.

Tom’s professional focus lies in providing “white glove” customer service oriented solutions. He believes that his role as a Broker lies in becoming a partner with his customer organizations. His firm is focused on administrative solutions that provide for a single source solution that can outsource a great deal of the day to day benefit plan responsibilities. In addition to providing administrative solutions his firm focuses on cost containment practices in such areas as self-funded claims auditing.

Tom is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and is dedicated to continuing his industry knowledge.

Tom currently resides in Erie, Pennsylvania with his wife, Kelly, and their two children. In his free time he enjoys traveling and playing golf.
