Fire Right—with Confidence and Grace

2021 Talent Conference & Expo
Attendees will learn the five principles of firing right to help them carry out a rigorous process and have the confidence they need to do it well.

When you are an HR professional, or hiring leader, firing right is just as important a part of your job as is hiring right. No one wakes up in the morning looking forward to terminating a staff member's employment. In fact, people hate it so much, they often wait far too long. While firing the right way won't eliminate all the pain for either party, it will make the conversation much more palatable. There are five common reasons that people get fired, and there are five principles in conducting that conversation that can make that interaction far more graceful and compassionate than many have experienced. The five principles will prepare the leader to do it right. The result: a better night's sleep, less chance of emotional backlash and surviving employee unrest, and far fewer lawsuits and arbitrations. Firing right can have a dramatic and positive return on investment in financial and human terms.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn what “firing right” means.
  • Understand the cost/benefit value proposition to firing right.
  • Identify the five principles of firing right with rigor and confidence.
