Millennials are the largest generation in the workforce and their impact helps to determine organizational growth and culture.

This session will describe the growth and influence of Millennials in the workplace and how managers can best identify and harvest the skills, talents, expectations, and contributions of Millennials for the good of the multigenerational organization. The session is presented from the perspective of the managers of Millennial workers. By exploring the extent to which managers understand and respond to the wants and expectations of the growing millennial population in the workforce, the session advances the current state of knowledge about the role that Millennials have on organizational culture and on the relationship between employee and manager.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the impact of Millennials in the workplace.
  • Attendees will be able to best identify and harvest the skills, talents, expectations, and contributions of Millennials.

Dr. Sandra Sessoms-Penny is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Research. She is also a University Research Methodologist and Faculty at the University of Phoenix. She is an alum of the George Washington University, Old Dominion University, Troy State University (Montgomery) and Saint Leo University. Sandra formerly served as a school administrator for elementary, middle and high schools in the state of Virginia. She is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Joy Taylor, former classroom teacher, school principal, and district administrator with nearly forty years of experience in K-12 education, has been fortunate to work with a wide range of school improvement stakeholders. The first-generation college graduate fully embraces the role education, mentoring and strong relationships play in navigating a path to success in the world of public education. The child of an illiterate father and a mother with an elementary school education, Dr. Taylor has spent close to four decades giving back to students, their families, teachers and community agencies to build a bridge for future educators and school leaders.
