Farewell to Death by PowerPoint

HR Reimagined: SHRM Northern California Annual Conference 2021

Very few people have backgrounds in the arts, so thinking like a designer is not natural. Most people don’t really even know what the word "design" means. This session covers core principles and best practices of presentation design, using SHRM material whenever possible for all examples and discussion points. Audience members know "Death by PowerPoint" when they see it and have become all-too-accustomed to it. By following a few key fundamentals, you can distinguish yourself from 99% of those people creating and delivering presentation content in Corporate America today. By attending this session, you will learn how to create better slides, how to think like a slide designer, how to problem-solve more effectively, and how to provide information in forms that audience members will truly appreciate.

Learning Objectives:

  • Separate content into three key buckets: what you say, what you show, and what you give
  • Blend relevant photos with simple text messages to create wholly distinct presentation experiences
  • The proper way to provide handouts (hint: it is *not* just printing slides)
