Creating Conscious Inclusion: 4 Interventions that Create More Mindful, Inclusive Organizations

Inclusion 2019: Shifting Workplace Culture
Develop an understanding of how unconscious bias impacts your organization and strategies for addressing it in your organization.

Much has been written about unconscious bias training, especially regarding the question of whether or not such training has the ability to impact organizational performance. This is an important inquiry, because the time and cost of training programs are great enough to warrant close examination of the results that they produce. The content of this session is drawn from over 20 years of studying research about unconscious bias and actively working with clients in hundreds of companies. This framework, which has four areas of focus, is an intervention strategy that has been applied to dozens of organizations and is designed to impact the entire organization. The purpose of this session is not to establish the case for the importance of unconscious bias work, as has been established within the inclusion, diversity, equitability and accessibility community, but rather to focus on a fundamental question: Is there a sustainable way to impact bias within your organization?

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the ways that unconscious bias can impact organizational systems.
  • Learn why training often fails and how education can be designed and delivered to have a sustainable impact.
  • Learn a four-stage intervention strategy that can be applied in your organization to create sustainable change.
