You're Not Alone: Peer Equity and Inclusion Coaches in the Workplace
Organizations everywhere are beginning to wake up to the serious effect of identity-based trauma on their employees. Peer Equity and Inclusion Coaches (PEIC) are a front line of support for all staff. These coaches are trained to provide culturally competent developmental coaching for their peers and be a resource for them after trauma-filled events (national events such as mass-shootings, local events such as racially charged violence, and organizational events such as the experience of micro-aggressions, etc.) They also serve as a resource for leadership to better understand equity and inclusion issues in the organization. This session will provide case study examples from organizations implementing PEIC programs and a solid grounding in the five-step PEIC framework, including immediately usable templates and examples of content for each step. Advice will also be provided on how to tailor the entire program to specific organizational needs.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the specific need for Peer Equity and Inclusion Coaches (PEIC) in their organization.
- Describe the necessary qualifications for an effective PEIC.
- Explain the five-step PEIC framework.
- Identify the specific needs of their organization at each of the five steps.
