All Politics Is Local: State Law Trends

Workplace Application:  State trends in employment law are critically analyzed from an HR perspective.

With legislative gridlock at the federal level, more employment law action is occurring at state and local levels. This session provides a critical analysis of state trends from an HR perspective, focusing on bills to:

  • Make additional right-to-work states.
  • Restrict employers’ right to access social media sites.
  • Allow employees to bring weapons onto their employers’ premises.
  • Limit employers’ right to conduct credit and criminal background checks.
  • Expand the number of groups protected against discrimination.
  • Provide paid and unpaid leave.

Bills proposed between the time of this announcement and the conference will also be covered. The presenter concludes with 10 recommendations to increase the effectiveness of your grassroots advocacy.
