Five Steps to Effectively Communicate Your Leadership Story

SHRM 2016 Annual Conference & Exposition
Workplace Application: This session will introduce five proven practices to effectively communicate your leadership story.

Every leader has a story – a collection of events, perspectives, and behaviors that embody who they are as a leader. How you communicate your story tells as much about you as your story itself. If not told right, at the right opportunity and with the right audience, your leadership story can fall short, or worse, it can backfire. To effectively communicate your leadership story, you must plan your message, be aware of unique opportunities, and know the role others play in communicating your leadership story. This session will show you how to:

·         Focus your personal leadership story on a few key memorable elements.

·         Frame the key messages of your leadership story.

·         Identify who the most important people in your audience are, what they want to know,
and how and when to engage them.

·         Match words and actions and learn strategies to do so.

·         Enlist others to tell your leadership story.
