Session #709: Preparing to Lead: Critical Project Management Skills for the HR Executive

SHRM 2016 Annual Conference & Exposition
Workplace Application: This workshop will give you step-by-step instructions and easy-to-implement tools to set you up for success on projects of any scope.
Managing projects can be challenging, especially if they span multiple divisions, time zones and countries. From global outsourcing, to rolling out an HRIS system, to leading change management initiatives, you have the unique opportunity to spearhead projects that can directly impact your organization's bottom line. This requires your project management skills to be on point and ready for action. This interactive workshop will prepare you to lead by providing in-depth, step-by-step instructions on how to plan for success and manage, execute and deliver results—all while meeting your budget. You will learn:

     The essentials of project management, which includes conducting an in-depth analysis of pre-project planning;
        identifying goals, deliverables and requirements (even constantly shifting ones); creating a breakdown of the
        work that needs to be accomplished; developing comprehensive time and cost estimates that fit within your
        organization’s financial objectives; and targeting your messages to influence key stakeholders and gain their support.

     How to develop metrics to determine the best employees to include on your project team, including how to
        organize and inventory skills, knowledge, personality, availability and previous experience to meet the goals
        spelled out in the initial project scope.

     Comprehensive risk probability versus impact analysis and how to overcome a major delay to your project.

     Tools available to help you organize and lead projects including the Fishbone Diagram, Project Scope Statement, Goal Breakdown
        Structure, RACI Matrix and several types of Gantt charts.
