Help! I Have California Employees. What Essential Laws Must I Know?
California is the world’s sixth-largest economy, so odds are strong your organization will soon have a California employee if it doesn’t already. This program demystifies California employment law by identifying essential California legal rules applicable to each stage of the employee life cycle, from recruitment to exit and beyond. It provides a deep dive into each area of legal compliance and includes California payroll and wage and hour rules; leave, disability and pregnancy accommodation obligations; and key differences between federal and California law in the areas of onboarding, investigating employee complaints and termination. The program will also provide tips on how best to document California personnel actions so you can defend employee claims in litigation. You will leave with an understanding of:
- How to comply with and enforce California employment law rules so you can effectively manage employees, reduce organization litigation risk and maximize employee engagement.
- How multistate employers can use ethical practice in determining how to comply with California employment law rules that may conflict with and/or significantly expand employee rights in states other than California.
- How to audit the company's compliance with California employment law rules while utilizing the attorney-client privilege, ensuring legal compliance and mitigating risk.
