Making the World More Equitable: How Exelon Used a Simulation-Style Training to Advance Equal Pay
The Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963, yet working women still earn 80 cents to each dollar earned by men and hold 6.6% of Fortune 500 CEO positions. Exelon acted on this alarming data through a partnership with UN's Women's HeForShe Campaign to increase the retention of women by 2020. Debuting at Exelon's 2019 Women's Leadership Summit, JB Training's highly interactive, simulation-style workshop challenged Exelon employees to discuss why these gaps exist and give them the toolkit to actively participate in the movement toward equity at work. In addition to being a catalyst for action at your own organization, this session is loaded with compelling data and inspiring stories that simultaneously show how much progress has been made and how much still needs to happen to make work equitable for everyone.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand how facially neutral policies disproportionately impact women and other protected classes.
- Recognize how intersectionality exacerbates the pay gap and opportunity gap.
- Differentiate between equality and equity and speak to colleagues about these concepts using a shared language.
- Engage in daily behaviors that will result in an inclusive workplace culture (e.g. norms, interactions, meetings, etc.).
- Serve as an individual champion and ally for equity in the workplace.
