Workplace of the Future: A Safe Space for the Sober Curious and Recovery Ready Workforce

Employee Resource and Affinity Groups are well positioned to expand, include, and embrace Sober Curious and Recovery Ready Workplace champions and their allies. Attendees will learn how DEIB groups can be used to create psychologically safe workspaces for employees seeking the peer-level support needed to acquire information, share resources, and navigate nonclinical mental and behavioral healthcare systems.
Learning Objectives:
- Communicate the impact that the pandemic and post pandemic 'new normal' have had on the mental and behavioral health of the workforce.
- Explain why Employee Resource and Affinity Groups should be expanded to include and embrace Sober Curious and Recovery Ready employees, champions, and their allies.
- Identify best practices, current approaches and trends used by companies to create psychological safety in the workplace relating to mental and behavioral health issues.

Cheryl Brown Merriwether
Cheryl Brown Merriwether brings over two decades of experience in corporate HR management, addiction recovery awareness, and adult education to the International Center for Addiction and Recovery Education (ICARE). As VP and Executive Director, she directs the administration, operations, and student support services for ICARE’s three divisions. Cheryl is the former two-term President of the Greater Orlando Society for Human Resource Management (GOSHRM), an active Board Member of Project Opioid, a former Chairman of the Board of Regents of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) and a former adjunct faculty member at the University of Phoenix and Strayer Universities.
