A 2024 Practical Boot Camp for Recruiting and Employing Veterans

2024 Talent Conference & Expo
This session significantly enhances an HR professional's ability to effectively recruit, interview, assess, retain, and develop veteran candidates and employees.

Eric Knott, professor of business at Arizona State University, demystifies key aspects of veteran recruitment, selection, and development.  What are the differences between team sizes, rankings, and responsibilities; what interview behaviors may you see that are taught to veterans and not necessarily indicative of their personality; and more. This practical guide to veteran employment addresses key roadblocks that HR professionals encounter as they try to communicate with, assess, retain, and develop veteran candidates and employees.

Learning Objectives:

 • Discern the levels of responsibility and likely management duties of specific military ranks and typical job titles;
 • Discuss the differences between the function of, and size of various teams and groups within the military (i.e., a platoon, brigade, regiment, squadron, etc.);
 • Identify potential veteran interview behaviors that are taught by the military versus actual behavioral traits of veteran candidates;
 • Predict developmental needs for veteran hires working in a sample of typical corporate leadership and non-leadership jobs based on their role in the military, branch, and length of service;
 • Discuss typical benefits and compensation focuses for veterans as they evaluate a company's total rewards programs.
