Having ‘the Talk’: Conversations About Race at Work
Remember when “the talk” was the conversation parents had with their children? Now, many organizations, HR professionals and company leaders are trying to figure out how to have a different talk—“the talk” about race at work. This interactive session shows how to move from words to action. Participants will work in smaller groups to bring the session to life. Under the direction and guidance of our speaker, participants will learn and practice as they are taken from theory to application to action. Attendees will discuss race with colleagues and get real-time feedback on their grasp of the concepts and their efforts to “not offend.” This is the most uncomfortable yet most fulfilling and life-changing session many participants will attend.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to navigate tough conversations around race.
- Understand your own racial bias and its impact.
- Hear how to distinguish between biased people and biased systems.
- Understand your role in taking “the talk” from conversations to commitment to companywide outcomes.
