Trashcan Hires: Don't Throw Away Hidden Talent
Screening tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have increased hiring speed and dropped costs-but they come with an even more expensive side effect: Excellent candidates being dropped because they don't fit narrowly-defined profiles. For those employers lucky enough to discover talented candidates in the 'trashcan,' after being set aside earlier in the process, there are benefits to be had. The diverse experience, perspectives, and skills that knocked them out initially, turn out to be a source of innovation and strength. Case studies of several trashcan leaders and skilled hires provide a cautionary lesson for businesses that have not embedded agile practices into their hiring routines. In this session, Boulo Solutions' founder and CEO, Delphine Carter, will pull from her HR leadership experience to discuss the benefits of diverse and 'trashcan' hires and share best practices to discover and attract 'hidden' talent. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the human element in agile practices in recruiting and hiring, and how to best use AI to discover the talent businesses need.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn proven techniques for looking beyond job titles to identify the experience and soft skills needed to fill a role successfully, including resume reviewing and referral techniques;
- Understand the importance of human input as part of agile processes in hiring;
- Learn about new hiring practices, tools, and online forums.
